When did you begin your career in the title or real estate industry and how did you get your start?
I started in the title industry in 1999 at First American Title. I started as a typist, typing commitments and policies. I learned how to do listing packages and then moved to the escrow side as an assistant. I then managed the national accounts and moved on to work in the HUD department. After 5 years with First American Title, I took a leap of faith to work for a start up title company, Mission Title, with Gregg Lyssy in 2003. Twelve years later, I'm still here! I started as an Escrow Assistant and soon became an Escrow Officer. I managed two large builder accounts with some retail business. Then I moved over to the Admin side, becoming the HR Manager and providing Escrow Support to our employees.
What is the most satisfying part of your role in the transaction process and what makes you stand out from others in your industry?
What satisfies me most is helping clients and employees. When I was an EO, I loved talking to my sellers and buyers. For most people, it's their first time selling and buying and the whole process is foreign to them. I strived on making it a smooth transitition for them. The same goes for our employees. When they call for assistance on a file or transaction, it makes me happy that I can help them resolve their issue.
What factors from your past experience have contibuted the most to your current unique skill set?
Before I began working in the title industry, I worked in the retail industry. I managed a gas station. I started as a cashier, then became an assistant, then a Manager. I talked with people from all walks of life, all day long. I counted money and set budgets and kept track of the store's inventory. I ran a register and worked with vendors. I was able to apply all this experience in the title industry.
When you're away from the busy Mission Title office, what are some of your favorite activities ?
My kids keep me really busy! My daughter, is involved in sports, girl scouts and academic clubs at school. My son, loves having me chase him around! In my spare time, I also enjoy baking and decorating cakes and reading.
