Leading Edge Real Estate lands suitor following Compass jilt

Less than three months after being stranded at the altar by Compass, Leading Edge, the Boston-based real estate brokerage, has finally found a suitor in MoxiWorks, it was announced on Tuesday.

MoxiWorks, a real estate technology company that provides its open platform to 110,000 agents and 60 brokerages nationwide, will extend its suite of tools to Leading Edge Real Estate, a brokerage that, in late July, entered into a similar agreement with Compass only to be abandoned by the New York-based company after its agents balked at giving away proprietary technology.

Under the new partnership, MoxiWorks will provide Leading Edge with a suite of technology tools including Moxi Engage CRM, Moxi Present CMA, Moxi Marketing, Moxi Hub, Moxi Insights and Moxi Cloud, according to an announcement issued Tuesday.

Paul Mydelski, Leading Edge Real Estate

“We know that having the right technology platform is critical to our agent’s success,” said Leading Edge Chairman Paul Mydelski. “MoxiWorks’ platform is truly a one-stop shop experience and is the only platform that is fully integrated with every piece of the transaction process. We’re thrilled to launch tools that will greatly improve the lives of our agents and enable them to be more profitable and provide a higher level of service to their clients.”

With a single log-in, Leading Edge agents will be able to manage and communicate with their client base in a number of different ways, manage all of their marketing and presentation materials, see predictive analytics to help them make business decisions and manage all their transactions.

“It really is an all in one platform and that is why we think it’s a great choice for Leading Edge,” said Mydelski.

In July, Compass abandoned a deal that would have given Leading Edge the same technology tools and platform used by the New York brokerage’s approximately 1,500 agents. The deal, part of an initiative unveiled a week earlier dubbed “Powered by Compass,” would have been the first of its kind as it marked a new effort to expand further into technology partnerships.

According to an email sent to employees from Leading Edge management at the time that was later obtained by Inman, the partnership with Leading Edge was abruptly scrapped due to Compass agents expressing fear that the company was handing over valuable technology.

On Tuesday, MoxiWorks CEO York Baur, who has waged a public feud with Compass, couldn’t resist a veiled jab at the tech rival, calling Compass “infamous” in a press release and hinting at Leading Edge’s wilted partnership with the company.

“While we wish the amazing people over at Leading Edge didn’t have to jump through hoops to get here, we’re thankful we were able to help them find the perfect technology suite,” Baur said in the statement. “We’re excited to have them aboard.”

Mydelski said told Inman that Baur’s feelings about Compass’ technology platform, market share and agent productivity claims are no secret and he declined to comment on Baur’s remarks. But he did reflect on his own experience with Compass.

“It’s a shame that we had to experience what we did with Compass,” said Mydelski. “We went into that agreement hoping it would be a successful agreement. It did not work out that way. But we feel really good about where we are today.”

A spokesperson for Compass did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the partnership or details on the status of “Powered by Compass.”
